Yi Ang Tian, 17

Deyang, China

Yi Ang Tian is a composer from Deyang, Sichuan, China, who began learning piano at the age of four, joined the school children's choir at ten, and started playing the oboe at sixteen. His grandfather, Tian Shisong, was a composer who introduced him to composition as a child, showing him the art of music. As he grew older and studied music theory, he gradually began composing serious music in junior high school. At the age of 14, he composed his first truly serious work: "高原新城马尔康," an adaptation of his grandfather's work of the same name. Since then, he has continued to learn and experiment, diversifying his style from piano solos to orchestral works to chamber music, from traditional 20th-century Chinese compositions to explorations of modern music. Representative works include the piano solos "高原新城马尔康 (adapted)," "在希望的田野上 (adapted)," and "青枫浦上"; and the orchestral work "溪流之舞."
