Mohammad Ali Voshagh, 23

Tehran, Iran

Moali Voshagh (b. 2002, Tehran) is an Iranian composer and pianist whose work explores the intersection of classical composition, Persian modal traditions, and contemporary sonic practices. After beginning his musical studies through piano performance in childhood, he later pursued formal training in composition and is currently completing undergraduate studies in Music Composition. Alongside his academic work, he has developed a broad interest in contemporary chamber music, Dastgāh-based composition, electroacoustic practices, improvisation, and audiovisual forms. His music frequently engages with memory, sonic transformation, modality, and the interaction between Persian musical materials and contemporary compositional techniques. His works have been presented in festivals, workshops, and collaborative projects in Iran and abroad. His string quintet Faryâd received recognition at the National Youth Music Festival. His chamber work Memory of the not-so-old qanat (Hāfeze-ye qanāt-e nā chandān qadimī) was selected through the Kariz Project open call and premiered by Quater Ensemble in Cologne in March 2026. The work was later performed again by Quater Ensemble as part of Houbara Resonanzen Iran in May 2026. Some of his audiovisual, electroacoustic, and piano-based works have also been presented in international and online festivals.
