Lachie McGregor (b. 2009) is a composer, conductor, tenor horn player, saxophonist, clarinetist and drummer from Invercargill, New Zealand. He has the privilege of playing in local groups such as the Ascot Park Hotel Brass Band, Invercargill City Jazz Band and Southland Youth Jazz Band and is the assistant conductor of the Ascot Park Hotel Development Band. He has also been selected as part of the National Secondary Schools’ Brass Band (NZ) in 2024 and 2025, and the National Youth Band (NZ) in 2025 and 2026. Lachie’s musical journey began at the age of 7 with the recorder, and quickly turned into a love for brass bands, jazz bands, orchestras and chamber groups. He particularly enjoys composing and arranging for brass bands, but has written successful compositions for many other ensembles before, including performing his composition ‘Reflections’ for Clarinet, Alto Saxophone and Piano at The Piano in Christchurch as part of the NZCT Chamber Music Contest in 2025. Currently, Lachie is in his final year of secondary school in Invercargill, and hopes to move to Wellington to study composition at the New Zealand School of Music Te Kōkī in 2026.
