Angeline Valencia (b. 2004) is an Indonesian composer and cellist currently in her second year of composition studies at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore. She studies under the guidance of Peter Ivan Edwards and Tan Yuting. She has also participated in a masterclass with the renowned composer Dieter Mack. Angeline has collaborated with soloists including pianist Jonathan Shin and saxophonist Michellina Chan, as well as contemporary ensembles and artists such as Trio Abstrakt (Salim(a) Javaid (saxophone), Marlies Debacker (piano) and Alexandre Ferreira Silva (percussion) and The bl duo (bertram wee / lynette yeo). Born in a city where music education is still developing, Angeline was the first in her family to pursue music. She began piano lessons at the age of five and took up the cello at fourteen. Her deeper connection to music emerged following a pivotal encounter with one of her piano teachers, who revealed that music extends beyond playing the correct notes—it is the art of shaping sound in ways that can deeply move both performer and listener. Driven by a desire to express herself beyond performance, Angeline began composing as a self-taught musician. Under the mentorship of her first composition and cello teacher, Khachatur Khachatryan, she later entered the conservatory to deepen her musical understanding and expand her creative voice. Open to a wide range of styles and genres, Angeline seeks to create works that invite new ways of experiencing sound and meaning.
